Giving the Next Generation a Voice
When Osborne County comes together for Impact Day on Sept. 25, some of our youngest residents will have a say in where the dollars go.
For the second year, youth involvement will be an important part of Impact Day, giving local students an opportunity to experience philanthropy firsthand and learn that you don’t have to be an adult — or have a lot of money — to make a difference in your community.
Putting Giving in Their Hands
One of the highlights of our first Impact Day in 2025 was watching local students become philanthropists themselves.
Through a special youth giving opportunity sponsored by Sunflower Bank, students were given dollars to donate to the participating Impact Day fund of their choice. Instead of simply hearing about charitable giving, students had the opportunity to make a decision: What matters to me, and where do I want to make an impact?
We are excited to bring that experience back for Impact Day 2026!
This year’s youth giving opportunity is made possible thanks to the generous support of Goheen & Slavik CPAs, Farmway Credit Union, and Nex-Tech. Their sponsorship allows us to put charitable dollars directly into the hands of local students and give them the opportunity to decide where those dollars can make a difference. We simply couldn’t offer this experience without them, and we are incredibly grateful for their investment in the next generation of Osborne County philanthropists.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about participating funds, consider the different ways those funds benefit our communities and decide where they would like their dollars to go.
It may seem like a simple activity, but we believe there is something powerful about putting that decision directly into the hands of a young person; it teaches them that their voice matters.
Building More Than Endowments
Impact Day is designed to grow endowed funds that will benefit Osborne County for generations. But building those funds is only part of creating a culture of philanthropy that lasts. We also have to build the next generation of givers, volunteers and community leaders.
When young people are invited to participate, we give them an opportunity to see that community improvement isn’t something that just happens. It happens because people care enough to get involved, give what they can and work together.
Twenty or thirty years from now, today’s students will be the business owners, teachers, farmers, health care professionals, volunteers, board members and community leaders making decisions about the future of Osborne County.
We want them to already know something important: They have the power to make a difference.
That may be one of the biggest impacts we can make on Impact Day.

Participating endowed funds will share in a $25,000 matching pool provided by the Patterson Family Foundation, making Impact Day the best day to give to the causes and organizations you care about throughout Osborne County.
It’s the best day to give — and a great day to show the next generation what giving can do.
