First OCCF Impact Day a success

Osborne County Community Foundation (OCCF) is excited to announce the success of its very first Impact Day, held September 19, 2025, at the Sims Event Center in Osborne. Thanks to the generosity of donors across the county, $23,226 was raised in just one day. These contributions were then matched dollar for dollar by OCCF and the Patterson Family Foundation, bringing the total local impact to an incredible $46,452.

“Impact Day was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together as a community,” said Mindy Miller, OCCF executive director. “The generosity we saw, from both adults and youth, shows the bright future ahead for Osborne County.”

This event was designed to celebrate and grow the funds that support our communities. Throughout the day, donors came together in person and online to support participating funds that benefit local schools, libraries, nonprofits, community projects, and more. Each dollar given went further thanks to the matching pool of $25,000, allowing donors to double their impact.

Participating Funds in Impact Day 2025:

  • Bible Baptist Church Fund

  • Bull City Community Foundation Fund

  • Downs Community Connection Fund

  • Midway Coop Ag Fund

  • Osborne County Ag & FFA Fund

  • Osborne County Community / Economic Development Fund

  • Osborne Public Library Fund

  • Poore Family Farms Fund

  • Shady Bend Golf Course Fund

  • Solomon Valley Transportation Fund

  • USD 392 Osborne County Schools Fund

  • Welch Family Memorial Fund (Alton Centennial Garden)

One highlight of the day was the participation of youth from Osborne Elementary (fifth grade) and Lakeside Junior High (eighth grade). Thanks to a sponsorship from Sunflower Bank, students received $10 to donate to the fund of their choice. Leading up to Impact Day, OCCF visited classrooms to teach students about philanthropy and community giving. On Impact Day, students put their lessons into action—researching the funds and deciding how their donations could make the most meaningful difference.

OCCF extends heartfelt thanks to all donors, fund representatives, and volunteers who helped make the first Impact Day a success. Special appreciation goes to the Patterson Family Foundation for their partnership in the matching pool, and to Sunflower Bank for investing in the next generation of philanthropists.

The dollars raised will continue to support Osborne County for years to come, helping to grow endowed funds that strengthen our communities forever.

How Endowed Funds Work

Endowed funds are permanent charitable funds created to support specific causes or organizations. The principal of the fund is invested, and a portion of the earnings is granted out each year—creating a steady, ongoing source of support. Because the fund is permanent, gifts made today continue to benefit the community for generations.

  • Organizational Funds are created by nonprofits, schools, libraries, or churches to provide them with long-term financial sustainability. Donors can give to these funds knowing their support will help the organization for years to come.

  • Field of Interest Funds are created by individuals, families, or groups to support a specific cause—such as education, the arts, healthcare, or community development. OCCF then ensures grants are awarded in that area of interest.

Starting a Fund

Starting a fund at OCCF is simple and flexible. Donors choose the type of fund, the name, and the purpose, and OCCF provides the structure, investment management, and grantmaking expertise. Anyone can start a fund to honor a loved one, support a favorite cause, or leave a legacy for the community.
